Frequently Asked Questions

What to expect
Counselling takes place when a counsellor sees a client in a private, confidential and non-judgemental therapeutic setting in which they explore a range of personal concerns and feelings. These may include unresolved childhood experiences, bullying, relationship difficulties or you may desire to make lifestyle changes.

If you have not experienced counselling before or if you've had a poor experience of it in the past, you might be having mixed feelings. When we embark on anything new or we have negative expectations, natural anxieties may emerge. I am more than happy to spend a few minutes on the telephone to talk through these with you before you commit to booking an appointment.

Counsellors are professionally trained people who are skilled in listening and reflective skills enabling you to explore issues that are affecting your life. What takes place in the sessions is controlled by what you choose to discuss and explore. I will not tell you what to do or make decisions for you, but will work with you to help you achieve your agreed goals.

How many sessions will I need?
Each person is different - so each client requires different amounts of sessions to resolve their issues. These sessions may be weekly or fortnightly, on a one-to-one basis or with a couple.

How confidential is the service?
Confidentiality is maintained within the ethical and practice guidelines of the Irish Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy

Is counselling covered by my medical card?
Private counselling and psychotherapy is currently not covered by medical cards. If you have a medical card ask your GP for more details.

How much do sessions cost & how long do they last?
The cost of an individual session is €50 with a discounted rate available for students, unemployed persons and retirees (€25). The cost of a couple's counselling session is €60. A twenty four hour cancellation policy applies. Sessions last for 50 minutes.

How do I make an appointment?
Please call 085 7267342. If your call is not answered, it usually means I am busy seeing clients. Please leave your name and telephone number and I will get back to you as soon as possible.
